After Turning 17
Start Driving Lessons
Can drive with a qualified instructor or a supervising driver (21+ and licence held 3+ years). Must display L plates.
Can get learner insurance for practice in a family car.
Pass the Theory Test
Must be passed before booking the practical test, £23.
Book and Pass the Practical Driving Test
Average learner takes 4–6 months of lessons before passing (£62 - £75)
Get Car Insurance
Must have valid insurance before driving solo.
Receive Full Driving Licence
Once you pass, you can drive alone immediately
Remove L Plates
